Happy Daylight Saving Time!

Two cool quotes I ran across today about daylight saving:

"An extra yawn one morning in the springtime, an extra snooze one night in the autumn is all that we ask in return for dazzling gifts. We borrow an hour one night in April; we pay it back with golden interest five months later." -Winston Churchill

"It seems very strange . . . that in the course of the world's history so obvious an improvement should never have been adopted. . . . The next generation of Britishers would be the better for having had this extra hour of daylight in their childhood." -Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Unfortunately, that extra hour didn't help me get to work any earlier

What the...?

So this is a picture of a particular store of a particular popular chain in Hong Kong.

When I first saw the sign, I had to take a double take.  Then I thought they made a typo.   It turns out that this slight misspelling of one of the most popular four-letter English words of all time stands for "French Connection UK".  Anyway... I just thought I'd share with everyone.  Also... for those who'd like to know, we had a great honeymoon in Hawaii and an equally great second reception in Hong Kong.  Now it's back to the old grind.  Thank you to everyone who helped out with "both" of our weddings.  We were very much blessed by you!

Comfy Shoes

Alice and I were in Bed, Bath, and Beyond the other day when I ran across a pair of these:

http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=107326&COL=410&RN=372

They looks like ordinary house slippers, but their secrect is in the memory foam they use for the sole lining.  I've been wearing them for about a day now, and I have got to say that they may possibly be the best pair of slippers I've had to date.  The memory foam pads are quite nice, and the tougher rubber outter soles make them usable both indoors and for light outdoor excursions such as getting mail.  The price is near the upper end for a pair of slippers ($19.99), but Bed, Bath, and Beyond has been sending out those 20% off fliers recently, which puts these at a more reasonable $15.99.  I highly recommend these, although if you are a size 10, get the extra large size since the large size recommended for men's size 10 didn't seem to fit my size 9.5-10 feet.  Must be getting old to be getting so excited about a pair of slippers

Lots of hospital ads on the radio lately

Is it me, or have there been a lot of radio ads for various hospitals lately?  I awoke this morning to an Overlake Hospital ad, which is the first I've heard from them.  There have been a lot of UW, Harborview, Evergreen, Swedish, and Group Health ads lately as well.  I wonder how the hospitaling market is doing lately.  Is business doing poorly?  It seems like hurting oneself is still America's favorite past time, so I can't imagine them hurting for business.  Maybe it's just the competition?

Much too happy

It has arrived:

In many ways, I can't believe I'm deriving so much joy from the arrival of an inanimate object.  I was "lucky" enough to snag one of these beauties from Costco.com when they went on sale for a whole 3 hours before shutting down. (You can't even find any mention of them on the site anymore).  I just wanted to share my joy with you all.  Now I just need to wait for Alice to have a free moment so that we can share that out of the box experience together. :)
